Stephen Rees-Jones

Moorland Rover was founded and is run by Stephen Rees-Jones. Welsh by ancestry, he was raised in the depths of the Somerset countryside (his father was a clergyman in a small parish near Taunton), and has a deep and abiding love of the natural world and the great outdoors. He was educated in North Devon and began his career as a Police Officer in the Somerset Constabulary. Time spent as an Outward Bound Instructor and Hotel Barge skipper continued to deepen his interest in the countryside and in 1972 he and his wife began their own business on the inland waterways which at one time involved working a horse drawn narrow boat. Stephen Rees-Jones
His appreciation of wide open spaces and the countryside has made him very aware of the detrimental effects of mass tourism on both town and countryside and visitor and visited alike, and he is keen to promote sustainable tourism. He has applied this philosophy when planning Moorland Rover holidays, and as a result many guests comment that their holiday was above expectations. Stephen is particularly proud of the fact that over 75% of his guests return from year to year with many having booked originally following recommendations by friends.
